Steve Verno is a member of the Professional Association of Healthcare Coding Specialist (PAHCS) and will soon be the first person certified as a CEDCS (Certified Emergency Department Coding Specialist).  Steve is also a member and former instructor with the Medical Association of Billers.  Steve was an Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross for 16 years, having graduated from the American Red Cross College.  In addition, Steve was an Instructor Trainer for the United States Army Medical Department for 20 years.  Recently, he was a coding and billing instructor with Everest University, in Orlando, Florida, where he is on medical leave due to a stroke suffered in January 2008.  He has written and has had published more than 8 books or guides on HIPAA, Coding and Billing.  Some of the free guidebooks he created to help the medical coding and billing profession are Appeals,Understanding ERISA, A Guide to understand Florida Statutes, Medical Billing Compliance, Physical Therapy Coding and Blling, and Massage Therapy Coding and Billing. He is also a contributing author for the book, The Insurance Handbook for the Medical Office.  Steve has more than 20 different seminars  on topics such as Provider Contracting, Appeals, ERISA, and Medical Billing Values, and Using Modifiers 25 and 59.  He is a medically retired practice manager of 14 emergency department physician practices.  His coding specialties are emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice and urgent care.  Steve’s billing specialties are appeals, provider contracting, and AR Recovery.
